South London Listens shortlisted for HSJ award
We are delighted to have been shortlisted for Most Impactful Project Addressing Health Inequalities at the HSJ Partnership Awards 2022.
South London Listens is a unique project set up by the three south London mental health trusts – South West London and St George’s Mental NHS Health Trust, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust.
The three trusts, together with local authorities and community organisations, are working together to help prevent a mental ill-health crisis as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Since launching in 2020, the South London Listens partners have heard from more than 6,000 people about how the pandemic has affected them and their mental health.
Our action plan was published in October 2021 which sets out how the South London Listens partners will be supporting people to recover. Projects will include training 650 people across south London to become Mental Health Champions and establishing 120 mental health and wellbeing hubs for people to turn to when they feel their mental health is low.
We are delighted to be among the 123 projects shortlisted for this year’s HSJ Partnership Awards. It is a testament to everyone who has been involved in the project, including the thousands of people living in south London who have shared their stories so far.
The judges shortlisted us based on our ambition, visionary spirit and the demonstrable positive impact that the project is having on the communities we serve. The selected winners will be announced during an awards ceremony on Thursday 24 March 2022.
Norman Lamb, our co-Chair and Chair of South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, said:
“South London Listens is programme of genuine co-production – identifying the needs of our communities in partnership with residents and service users. We are thrilled to be shortlisted for an HSJ Partnership Award.
"Despite the barriers to engagement posed by Covid-19, we managed to engage with so many south Londoners and have co-designed a two-year programme of mental ill health prevention as a result. We are grateful to all our partners and communities for supporting South London Listens and we are looking forward to working together over the next two years to deliver on these priorities."
