Art exhibition explores past, present and future

Come and celebrate the creative work of refugee and migrant women living in Deptford as part of its Literature Festival.

The exhibition, Sole Sisters, was part of a six-week creative course to help improve well-being through meeting others and creating art.

During the course, the women worked with local writer Carinya Sharples exploring the themes of where we’ve been, where we are now and where we want to go through art, words and stories.

“Over these six sessions, we wrote, drew, painted, drank tea, laughed, shared, listened, and connected.” Sole Sisters member.

The course for local women seeking asylum, came about through the partnership working of South London and Maudsley Recovery College, Lewisham Refugee and Migrant Network, and Spread the Word.  Community Embedded Worker in Lewisham, Laura Parsons, was instrumental in making this happen. Brining this idea to life, and working closely with colleagues at the Recovery College and Spread the Word.

It’s aim to provide a safe, comfortable space has brought about a whole exhibition’s worth of work which is on display at the Deptford Lounge from 16th March – 28th March.

Free entry.
